Another month down. November has absolutely flown by and I feel a little disorientated about it. It’s been reasonably eventful too, so let’s get into it.

Guy Fawkes

We spent Guy Fawkes at the Battersea fireworks. It was epic! One of the best things about Northern Hemisphere Guy Fawkes is that it’s dark so early, you can do fireworks at 8 pm and be home and in bed at a reasonable time (am I a nana?). The downside, it’s bloody cold standing out to watch. But pros and cons, it was still super fun. They started with a bonfire which was massive, followed by 30 minutes of insane fireworks. They were probably the best fireworks I’ve seen, I was one of those annoying people in the crowd doing ooo’s and ahh’s, quite loudly. The fireworks were supplemented by some fun music and a great finale. It was definitely worth braving the cold for it.

Budapest

Yet another fun trip with our mates, Emma and Matt. We were lucky to embrace Budapest in an unseasonably warm weekend. We absorbed some history, our first Christmas market of the season, decent beer, hot thermal baths, and a traditional Hungarian feast. A lengthier blog post will follow next week.

We accidentally stumbled upon Hero Square after our evening at the baths, we were not disappointed.

Rome

Then we had fleeting trip to the eternal city for a rowdy weekend with a bunch of kiwis to catch the All Blacks vs Italy. So happy we got to experience rugby at the Olympic Stadium. So many highlights:

  • Singing the NZ national anthem in another country was a really proud moment
  • 80,000 Italians singing their national anthem in full voice
  • The haka sent chills down my spine
  • Just a couple of beers after the match
  • Trying croquettes – deep-fried mashed potato and cheese, a new fave
  • The Trevi fountain lit up at night
  • Not worrying about being cold because it was about 16’C each day
  • Embracing torrential rain in Rome for a full day
  • Practicing my film camera photography

Changing jobs

Almost to the day, I finished a year of working as a physio in hospitals in the UK and I’ve gone on to continue locuming but back to my roots of musculoskeletal physio. We’ll see how we go, it’ll be nice for a change.

Some favourites from the month:

Watching: reruns of Mock the Week, basically the British version of 7 days (comedians discussing the news/making fun of the news). I’ve spent evenings in fits of laughter watching this show.

Listening to: Ziggy Alberts’ new album ‘Laps around the Sun’ has been on repeat on my Spotify recently, such a great one! Can’t wait to see him live (again) next year!

Wearing: my fave leggings by Flexxfit. I bought myself a second pair recently in sage green and when I’m not at work I live in these. I’m a big yoga tights fan and these are the best, I’ve ever bought. They’re so comfy and warm and they are the perfect length for my short legs without crinkling too much at the bottom.

It’s really feeling like winter here now. Woolen socks are becoming a daily occurrence and we are even closer til the olds come over. Two weeks!! 😀 See ya soon
