September has been one crazy month! Vikki was here for the first two weeks which was awesome! It was such great fun having a friend from home to show around London and go on holiday with. The fun did end a little when Vikki went home, although no one laughed at my jokes quite as much. Anyway, then we hit two out of three Baltic countries for something a bit different and loved it, a bit chilly but pretty cool anyway. I’m probably going to cover a bit in this post, so settle in!

Shakespeare’s Globe

£5 tickets? Yes, please! We got a new experience of a very old and traditional style of play at the Shakespeare’s Globe. The play was Orthello and performed pretty well. We were in the cheap seats and I use the term “seat” loosely because we were in the yard for standing only.

To be honest this was the first time ever that I’d seen a Shakespeare play/movie all the way through. I mean, they’re very long and somehow I manage to skip them in high school English. It took me a good fifteen minutes to get into it and be able to follow what they were saying as it was in old english style. But get into it I did and it was quite enjoyable. Like any Shakespearean tradegy, the ending was predictable and everyone in the yard was getting a bit fidgety by the end. Still a fun experience.

Barcelona

Vikki and I had a girls trip to Barcelona while she was over and it was awesome. It was such a great trip it got its own hashtag #BFFSinBarcelona. We spent the weekend being tourists, laughing at other tourists, eating delicious gluten-free food, getting up early and being judged by other hostel goers for going to bed early. In an uncanny turn of events our friend Sabrina was also in Barcelona that weekend, so we caught up with her in a cute wee reunion.

Harry Potter studios

Harry Potter Studios was a much-anticipated visit for all of us and it did not disappoint. From the magical beginning into the Great Hall to the behind the scenes magic of the movies to the sets and props and of course the green scene broomstick flying. It was truly magical and my eyes were sore from being wide with excitement all afternoon. Be wary the merch is expennys so maybe just stick to a keyring like we did.

En route to HP Studios – pretty pumped!

New website

As you may have noticed, my website has had a bit of a tidy up and upgrade. I spent an afternoon designing and tweaking my new website layout. Hopefully, you enjoy it. Also a special shoutout to my sister, Hannah for her fantastic work on my new logo, it looks awesome!! Thank you, Han! 😀

The Baltics

We spent the last five days of September in the chilly but quirky countries of Latvia and Estonia. They may not be on everyone’s travel list, but they are definitely worth a look if you have time. Throughout our time there the high was about 10’C which was a bit of a shock to the system, but it didn’t dampen our spirits. We spent time walking around the old towns of Riga and Tallinn, we did a bus trip between the two cities with stops in medieval towns and a national park. We even made it to an Ice Hockey match, another one of our accidentally perfectly timed plans. The people were really friendly and the beer and food were delicious. Can’t wait to share more about it in a later (more in depth) blog post.

Other Favourites:

Listening to: Blueprint for Armaggedon Podcast. This is a new podcast I was recommended from our friend Matt. It’s a long monolouge form podcast by Dan Carlin, all about World War I. When I say “all” I’m not kidding this series has 6 eps and each being at least 3 hours long (I’ve only listened to 2 full episodes so far). But it’s so interesting and detailed, I’m totally nerding out on history facts, quotes, and thoughts about the war that shaped the world we live in today.

Wearing: my new hand-knitted socks I got from the central market in Riga (they have sunflowers on them!).

September was a busy but super fun month, I’m now ready for a slower paced October. I want to spend some time walking amongst the leaves in the parks and drinking hot drinks.
