June has been a pretty good month. The weather has continued to be warm, it’s light in the early morning and late evenings. Summer activities are beginning around the city. Everyone is so much happier when the weather is good. It’s been great.
Rugby Sevens
We started out the month with a good ole trip to Twickenham to watch the finals day of the World Rugby Seven Series: London edition. It was a beautiful hot day and although New Zealand played rather averagely in their first game knocking them out for the cup final route, they played better in the following games to finish 5th. There were probably about a million different food stalls and an awesome area outside the stadium to chill out and drink or eat. I was that loud person who cheered for every team that I felt like was not getting the support they deserved from the crowd.
Windsor
The following weekend we hopped on the train and headed for Windsor. Hopped on is a bit more positive than what actually went down, we got to our train platform to see our train leaving without us, having already swiped in we had to wait there for another half hour before we could train our way to Windsor.
Windsor was lovely, again another beautiful sunny day. We went to the obvious choice, the castle. It was pretty awesome actually, heaps of history and amazing paintings and armour inside. As it’s still a working palace, there are some parts you can’t go into or see. And no, unfortunately we did not see Liz.
We made the most of the summery day and had a beer in the sun for lunch and a wander around town. Then we sat in the grass under the castle, like the commoners we are and ate ice cream. It was glorious.
The Lion King
For James’s birthday day, we thought we’d do a London Bucket List activity, something that we definitely had to do while we were here living in London: Go to a West End Production. And not just any West End Production but The Lion King. The Lion King has been on West End in 1999 and is as amazing as ever.
On the day of play, I started to fret because everyone was telling me how amazing it was and I was worried I would be going in with my expectations too high. Not to worry though, it was as awesome as we’d hoped! The costumes were amazing, the dancers were fantastic, the set was everchanging and the characters were so great. Highly recommend this play to anyone looking for a great show at West End.
The Foo Fighters
Finally, one of the last events of the month, the Foo Fighters concert at London Stadium. We went along with sixty thousand of our mates to see the famous rock band live and they did NOT disappoint. There were epic drum and guitar solos, rock n roll screeches, covers and classics, beers thrown in the air, and they rounded off their 2 and a half hour set with “Everlong” and fireworks. It was epic!! My step counter went from 100 steps (a very lazy morning) to 18,000 from the jumping and dancing.
Portugal
Tomorrow we’ll be flying to Portugal to meet a couple of lunatics from New Zealand to hang out with for a week and I can’t bloody wait. We fly on the 30th so technically still June and you can be sure I’ll be posting more about it after the fact, so keep a lookout.
Favourites of the Month
Watching: Vikings, it’s a great Game of Thrones alternative and has been played on the History channel due to it’s accuracy to Scandinavian and Viking history. It’s quite gruesome and gorry in places but it’s super interesting to learn about Viking culture.
Drinking: L&P, we went out for dinner one night and I found Lemon and Paeroa on the menu. I was super stoked and ordered it straight away, it made my night.
Listening to: the Foo Fighters, I had to be more subtle with this one because James only knew we were going 4 days before the concert so I had a lot of individual time to get pumped about the concert beforehand.
Trying out: Nichole’s new course Pursuit of Purpose. Nichole is a blogger I’ve met through various social media channels. I was lucky enough to be a Beta Tester for her new course about goal setting and inspired action and creating a life you love.
Reading: I’m still finishing off “Big Magic” by Elizabeth Gilbert which has been quite good, it’s all about living a creative life. I’m not normally one to commit to just one book so I’ve just started “All the Light we cannot see” by Anthony Doerr, I’m only a few chapters in but really enjoying it, I’ll definitely be taking it on holiday with me!
And that’s about it for June, it’s been a good one, a lot more London-based activities but still good times and some bloody lovely weather, long may it continue.
